Top 6 Foods for Dry Winter Skin

During the winter months, the sun stops shining, and unfortunately, so can our skin! For many people, the winter months bring dry and dull skin, but it doesn’t have to be that way. In today's blog, I'm sharing the top 6 foods you should consume to enhance your skin health during the winter months.

Top 6 Foods for Dry Winter Skin:

Salmon. Salmon is rich in omega-3s, which decrease inflammation in the body, helping your skin appear less red and puffy. I love adding canned salmon to salads, wraps and grain bowls and smoked salmon to avocado toast.

Sweet potato. Sweet potatoes contain vitamin A. When consumed, vitamin A is converted to retinol in the liver and then used to create new skin cells. Without retinol, our skin would become extremely dry. I love roasting sweet potatoes with garlic, herbs and olive oil as a yummy dinner side dish.

Citrus. Citrus fruits are rich in vitamin C, which supports collagen synthesis, helping to maintain skin elasticity, reduce signs of aging, and protect against oxidative damage. What’s even better is that citrus fruits are in season in the winter, meaning they have optimal freshness and taste. My favorite winter citrus fruits are Cara Caras, which are great in smoothies, salads, or alone as a snack

Eggs. Eggs provide biotin and lutein, which can enhance skin moisture and radiance. One of my favorite ways to eat eggs is in this breakfast Savory Zucchini Oatmeal bowl with a fried egg on top.

Sunflower Seeds: Sunflower seeds are high in vitamin E, known for its strong antioxidant properties that strengthen the skin's barrier. They make the perfect balanced snack to satisfy a salt craving with an added nutritional boost. I love these portable sunflower seed packs from Zee Zees.

Oysters. Oysters are one of the best sources of zinc, an important mineral shown to help with inflammatory skin conditions, including rosacea and dermatitis. If you aren’t a fan of raw oysters, I recommend making a savory seafood pasta dish with whole grain noodles, canned oysters, lemon, herbs and veggies of your choice.
